Bonjour all,
What’s in store for 2021? Well, it's our 31st Anniversary Tour that's what! So, we thought returning to the Provence region in Southeastern France would be a great way to celebrate! This sun-drenched region has a lot to offer, especially by bike. We'll be bringing our special touches as we explore the wonderful outdoors from the cliffs of Les Alpilles and Roman ruins, to the hardscrabble vineyards and olive groves lining the countryside. So, come and join us on our 31st Anniversary Tour as we toast the sun with a glass of pastis in the courtyard of France known as Provence! Day 1. Châteauneuf-du-Pape – Meet mid-morning in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon and explore this village of "Cardinals." After lunch, we'll bike for a 10-mile warm up ride to our hotel, an elegant château from the early17th century. Day 2. Orange – Mid-morning bike ride to explore the vineyards and charming stone-clad hill town of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Then it's on to Orange to visit the amazing Roman theater constructed in the 1st century. Day 3. Ch-du-Pape to Pont du Gard – Our destination is the area near Pont du Gard. Along the way we pass the vineyards of Provence and the quaint towns of the Gard region. We arrive at our unique and stylish accommodations for the night. Day 4. Castillon-du-Gard – Today is an optional ride to visit the Roman aqueduct of Pont du Gard spanning the Rive de Gard or cycle to the town of Uzès for shopping/lunch …or both! Day 5. Saint-Rémy de Provence –Now we cycle south to the picturesque village of Saint-Rémy. After stopping for a riverside lunch under the shade of broad sycamore trees, we arrive in Saint-Rémy to a small fun boutique hotel. Day 6. Saint-Rémy – Options abound, as it's market day in Saint-Rémy and it's considered one of the best in Provence. We'll have a late morning ride to the gothic hill town of Les Baux- de-Provence crowned by an ancient fortress. There's still time to check out Van Gogh's last residence in Saint-Rémy or continue on to cycle scenic Les Alpilles. Day 7. Saint-Rémy to Fontaine de Vaucluse - Now it’s time to start our journey into the Luberon. We cycle through the countryside to our final destination in the petite village of Fontaine de Vaucluse. On the way, we’ll visit L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue the “Venice” of Provence, Day 8. Luberon and Environs – Our longest ride through Provence. We start our loop ride passing the perched villages of Gordes, the orange hills of Roussillon, and cross over a 2,000 year old Roman bridge to visit Lacoste's château of the Marquis de Sade Day 9. To Avignon – We say au revoir to Provence and return late morning via the van to the Avignon train station. |
