2018 - Northern Burgundy et Cote d'Or, FR

In 2018 we cycled through the northern region of Burgundy and into the famous vineyards of Cote d'Or.  We  began in  Auxerre and traveled along the canal of Nivernais to the UNESCO World Heritage village of Vezelay and Benedictine Abbey Ste-Madeleine.  We ventured into the heart of the Foret  de Morvan and  visited  Chateauneuf-en-Auxois.

Next it was time to cycle along the Canal de Bourgone into the Cote d'Or. Here the villages of Gevry, Vosne, Chambolle, Nuits St Georges and Aloxe awaited us with their riches of Pinot Noir and Chardonnays...with the "vendange" in full swing

We ended our discovery in the medieval streets of Beaune and feasted on the awesome cuisine and wine that bring so many to this region of France.

2016 - Loire Valley, FR

2014 - Dordogne et Lot Valleys, FR

There are two areas of France that are absolutely wonderful to explore by bike, but rarely done together…the Dordogne Valley and Le Lot Valley.  Cycling past rugged limestone cliffs and along verdant riverbanks, this adventure unfolds the treasures from prehistoric cave paintings to incredible medieval villages like Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, Martel, Rocamadour, and Sarlat.

The châteaux of the 100 Years War, Beynac-et-Cazenac and Castelnaud are also on the route with their imposing walls high above the valley floor with views that stretch out to the horizon.  Our tour finishes in the vibrant green vineyards of Mercuès with several days of cycling, wine tasting, and visiting the small riverside villages of Le Lot.

We sample many of this region’s deep-colored and full-bodied red wines and treat our palates to the fine gourmet dishes famous in the Quercy region know for foie gras, walnuts, and truffles.  This little known area is a delight to discover.
The history, the stone villages, the bucolic French countryside, the cuisine, and the wines provide a special insight into a side of France that's truly française

Our cycling journey explored the incredible  "Valley of the Kings." The Loire with its rich history and string of royal châteaux and gardens are carefully placed within a lush and verdent countryside.  This area, known for its culinary delights, the Loire Valley also offers the unique vineyards and wines of Vouvray, Chinon and Saumur-Champigny....of which we tasted many!

Our adventure started in the town of Angers where we were transported back into a magical region steeped in the history of Renaissance royalty and a time of unbelievable opulence.  In Amboise we marveled at the inventiveness of Michelangelo  at Le Clos Luce and  explored the gardens of  Villandry and Chaumont.

The Loire, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is  excellent for exploring by bike.   With its level terrain, small back roads, and many charming villages, any level of cyclist can enjoy the area.
